Description

An Ice Bucket by Mappin & Webb made for The British India Steamship Navigation Company (BISN).  BISN was a Victorian steamship company that as its names implies operated mainly in the Far East until acquired by P&O in 1914. The Ice Bucket is the same design as supplied to P&O by Mappin & Webb but with the BISN mark and this makes it of some rarity. These magnificent Mappin pieces are of the highest quality and were designed to withstand an arduous life.  The silver plate is excellent condition as is the drainer.  The bucket is also in outstanding condition given its use, and only has very minor dents to the base as appropriate. A rare and evocative find.
